The Column Body Shape:
Shoulder width same as hip width.
Slight waist.
Longer legs.
Clothes that suit ‘The Column’ body shape:
You are perfectly proportioned: so you don’t need to play down any part. Strong blocks of colour can be worn everywhere. Make the most of it and have fun.😁
Dress: The boxy look of a shift dress: deemphasizes the bust and waist, making shift dresses especially flattering on those with a column body type.
Necklaces & Scarves: Using accessories to draw attention upward or add volume to the bust area creates a more feminine silhouette. Large, bold or chunky necklaces work well to fill in space and create a focal point. Multi-layered pearls or pendants add volume and softness to the chest. Chiffon or silk scarves with bright patterns or textures can add interest to the upper body.
Skirt: The gentle flare of a A-line is all you need to add a little shapeliness to your waist.
A-shaped line of a dress or coat, created by Christian Dior in 1955. The narrow shoulders and hips are accentuated by a dropped waistline and flared skirt. In 1998/99 a less extreme form of the A-line reappeared in haute couture, notably at Chanel.
Belts: are essential for breaking up a straight, vertical line and defining the waist. Best styles are a medium-width, or thin belts that are not pulled too tight. Also a lower slung belt worn slightly lower on the hips can also work well to break up the long, lean torso. Tip: Clinch belts over blazers, cardigans, or loose dresses to create an hourglass figure.
Bags: A medium-sized bag with structure works well to complement a defined waist look. Totes/crossbody bags that rest at the hip help to add volume, creating a curvier illusion at the lower body.
Tip: Re-heel and re-sole your boots every year and you will get more wear out of them.
Footwear: The heel should be not too thin, not too thick, just a lovely balance and supportive.
Rounded toes, or wedges work well to add soft, feminine curves. Tip: You don’t need shoes that are too curvy.
Ankle straps are perfect for highlighting slim ankles and breaking up long legs. Chunky boots or brogues these add “weight” to the base of your outfit, balancing out a more structured top.
