Visionary Women of Gloucester
Ethelflaed, the daughter of King Alfred the Great.
Not only did Ethelflaed re-fortified the decayed Roman town of Gloucester. But also just outside the walls she built a church named the new Minster. For the next century the new minster of St Oswald Priory was famous for its wealth & miracles; Also nicknamed the GOLDEN MINSTER.
This building was damaged during the English Civil War then demolished in 1643.
More than that Ethelflaed herself is buried here.
